Last weekend, I had the honor of being invited to the Fourth Session of the European Second Level Master in Functional and Aesthetic Surgery at the University of Turin. Forty participants from different parts of Europe attended the session, where they had the opportunity to witness live facial surgery, followed by presentations on the techniques performed. Lifting procedures, canthoplasty, and other advanced techniques were demonstrated and discussed with the program director Dr. Michele Pascali, co-director Professor Pecorari, Dr. Gloria Marchese, and Dr. Alberto Diaspro. Professor Pascali performed a live demonstration of his award-winning temporal lifting technique, recently recognized in New York. I had the opportunity to perform a bilateral secondary canthoplasty in a secondary case We were also joined online by our dear friend Mario Pelle Ceravolo (@mariopelleceravolo), who contributed an outstanding lecture. An intense and enriching week in Egypt 🇪🇬 during CairoFace 2, impeccably organized by the tireless Dr. Samir Ghoraba and his outstanding team. IMCAS Surgery, flew all the way to Palma de Mallorca in 2023 to film a bilateral blepharoplasty with canthoplasty and lipofilling that I performed at Clínica Rotger Quirón alongside my surgical team. Five months later, she showed up at IMCAS Paris 2024, just from Hôpital Fer à Moulin I was presenting the superolateral access technique developed by my mentor, Dr. Jelks — a true visionary in eyelid surgery. This session also provided an opportunity for professional exchange with esteemed colleagues, including Dr. Kao @kaoplasticsurgery and Dr. Nayak @nayakplasticsurgery , at the cadaver lab. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Sebastian Garson @garsonsebastian and @cartierhugues Cartier for their outstanding organizational efforts, as well as the tireless Olympe, whose dedication was truly remarkable. On the last Friday, April 26th, Louise Laub @louisecarolita shared with me the heartbreaking news of her beloved father, Don’s passing. Don was the visionary founder behind Interplast (now ReSurge International), the pioneering non-profit organization that dispatched multidisciplinary surgical teams to provide life-changing plastic and reconstructive surgery free of charge in developing nations. Moreover, from 1968 to 1980, Don served as the Chief of Plastic Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine. He was a trailblazer in various fields, notably in gender-affirming surgery, a topic of immense importance today. I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have crossed paths with him during the Reconstructive Surgeons Volunteer Program (RSVP) meetings of the American Society of Plastic Surgery, circa 1999. It was Don who inspired me to embrace the role of Visiting Professor at Stanford University. My gratitude towards him knows no bounds. An exemplary moment was our second workshop to Anantapur (@fvicenteferrer Vicente Ferrer Foundation, India) with my foundation Cirujanos Plastikos Mundi (CPM). We brought along a substantial supply of surgical equipment and, more significantly, invaluable human resources, including the exceptional Dr. Debra Johnson @debrajohnson , Richard Jobe, and his wife Andrea. Together, we conducted an awe-inspiring cleft lip workshop, a testament to Don’s enduring legacy. Don graced Mallorca during the Beut & Jelks Symposium in 2010, accompanied by Louise, where he lent his support in commemorating the first decade of CPM. However, my fondest memories trace back to my days at Stanford, particularly when, in the early morning, we embarked on hikes through the encompassing mountains, where time appeared to stand still... My heartfelt condolences go out to his wife Judy and his children, Louise and @donald.laub Donald. Don, thank you for your friendship.
